\nIt gives me great pleasure to invite you to my second IFLA President\u2019s Meeting which is being held in Istanbul, Turkey on 3-5 June 2015. While the topic of my first President\u2019s Meeting arranged in May 2014 in Helsinki, Finland focused on the impact of libraries on society, the theme of my second Meeting will be to look at how libraries are being transformed.<\/p>\n

Under the title of \u201cThe Art of Transforming Libraries\u201d, this President\u2019s Meeting will explore issues related to the changes faced by libraries all around the world today. The IFLA Trend Report as well as the Lyon Declaration on Access to Information and Development will set the scene for the other topics; these will include transforming technologies, legal regulations and their impact on information technologies, transformation of public libraries and knowledge economy.<\/p>\n

The program includes distinguished speakers representing many viewpoints and interests. The aim is to advance our understanding of the needs and modes for transforming libraries. The results of the meeting will help libraries to adapt to the new technological, legal and other requirements with which they have to live on a daily basis. This meeting will be an exciting and rewarding experience for all participants. As IFLA President I look forward to welcoming you. Join us for three days of stimulating discussion and reflection, led by several renowned speakers from many countries. On Friday 5 June there will also be an opportunity to participate in study tours designed for different interests, for example you will be able to see some examples of Turkish libraries at first hand.<\/p>\n

This Meeting will bring together librarians, researchers and educators from many countries who are engaged in library, education and information technology world. The Meeting will focused on the IFLA Trend Report, first set in Singapore in 2013 and then continue to develop by efforts made in different countries. Together with the TLA and the local Organizing Committee, we are organizing an inspirational program in true Turkish tradition that some of you already experienced during the IFLA Annual Conference in 1995, and some other international conferences we hosted in \u0130stanbul.<\/p>\n

Istanbul is one of the world\u2019s most historic and beautiful cities. It is a multicultural metropolis for blending old tradition with a modern life. We hope you will also take opportunities for enjoying the city and its surrounds as well as the Meeting.<\/p>\n

Istanbul City Tour Program<\/strong><\/p>\n

Topkapi Palace: This is an extraordinary complex of buildings that extends over one of Istanbul’s seven hills in a splendid position. The palace was a setting for state occasions and royal entertainments and is a major tourist attraction today, containing the most holy relics of the Muslim world such as the prophet Muhammed’s cloak and sword. Topkap\u0131 Palace is among those monuments belonging to the “Historic Areas of Istanbul”, which became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and is described in Criterion iv as “the best example of ensembles of palaces of the Ottoman period. \"3\"Blue Mosque: Dating from the 17th century, an architectural masterpiece famed for its exquisite blue tiles and six elegant minarets. This mosque was built by Sultan Ahmet I during 1609-1616 in the square carrying his name in \u0130stanbul. The architect is Sedefhar Mehmet A\u011fa. It is the only mosque in Turkey with six minarets. The mosque is 64 x 72 m in dimensions. The central dome is 43 m in height and is 33.4 m in diameter. 260 windows surround the mosque. Due to its beautiful blue, green and white tilings it has been named the “Blue Mosque” by Europeans. The inscriptions were made by Seyyid Kas\u0131m Gubari.
